When you come to visit Koh Phi Phi, even if it’s just for a day, make sure to hike up to the iconic Phi Phi Viewpoint. The panoramic views from the top are absolutely breathtaking and offer one of the most unforgettable sights on the island.
Koh Phi Phi is already known as a picture-perfect tropical paradise, but seeing it from above—where the turquoise bays meet lush green hills—is something truly special. The short hike is more than worth it, and visiting the Phi Phi Viewpoint is a must-do on any trip to the island.

KOH PHI PHI DON
50 THB ENTRY FEE
30 MIN WALKING

Phi Phi Viewpoint is perched just 186 meters above sea level, right in the heart of Phi Phi Don. Although it’s not a massive climb, it offers a breathtaking perspective of the island’s unique shape. From the top, you can clearly see both Tonsai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay almost touching at the narrowest strip of the island—a view that truly highlights Phi Phi’s tropical charm.
There are three main viewpoints: Viewpoint 1, 2, and 3. Viewpoints 1 and 2 are stacked directly above each other, with Viewpoint 2 offering the iconic photo spot and main viewing platform. If you continue hiking for another 15 minutes, you’ll reach Viewpoint 3, which sits at a similar elevation but gives a slightly different perspective. For adventurous hikers, there’s also a lesser-known Viewpoint 4 hidden beyond the main trail.

VIEWPOINT #1
This is the first stop on your way up and the base of the viewpoint area. It features a well-kept garden, the popular “I ❤️ Phi Phi” sign, and a small shop where you can grab a cold drink. There are lots of benches and shaded spots to rest if you need a breather before continuing your hike.
The garden here has some quirky and colorful statues—very Thai in style. Think banana-shaped benches, open-shell armchairs, and oversized chickens. Bizarre? A little. But fun and worth a quick photo, for sure.
VIEWPOINT #2
This is the most iconic spot to take in the view—and snap that classic Phi Phi photo. From the platform, you’ll see both bays, the town below, and Phi Phi Leh Island in the distance. There’s plenty of space to sit and soak in the view, and you can enjoy a drink, some ice cream, or even a slice of cake at the Viewpoint Café.
VIEWPOINT #3
The least visited of the three, VIEWPOINT 3 offers a quieter experience and an alternative angle of the island. There’s a small extra entry fee of 20 THB, which keeps the crowds away. If you’re after a peaceful place to enjoy the view (or take photos without too many people), it’s worth the extra 15-minute walk from Viewpoint 2.

HOW DO YOU GET TO PHI PHI VIEWPOINT?
Hiking is the only way to reach the Phi Phi Viewpoint—there are no cars or motorbikes for rent on the island. The path you take depends on where you’re staying, but if you’re based in the main village near the pier, the stair route from Harmony House is the fastest and most convenient.
ROUTE #1 (PINK ROUTE ON THE MAP) — ~30 MINUTES
This is the most direct and easiest route to the viewpoint. Start by walking through town toward Harmony House Hostel, located just under 10 minutes from Tonsai Pier and close to Loh Dalum Bay.
At the end of the Harmony House building, turn left and follow the signs marked “Viewpoint” and “Tsunami Evacuation Route.” You’ll come to a steep staircase—this is the beginning of your hike. Climb the stairs, passing through Phi Phi Arboreal Resort, and you’ll arrive at Viewpoint 1 in about 10 minutes.
At Viewpoint 1, you’ll find a ticket booth where you’ll pay the entry fee of 50 THB. From here, you can rest in the garden or continue the clearly marked path up to Viewpoint 2. The trail is straightforward and easy to follow, winding through the viewpoint area to the next platform with stunning views.

ROUTE #2 (YELLOW ROUTE ON THE MAP) — ~60 MINUTES
If stairs aren’t your thing or you’re in the mood for a longer and more scenic walk, you can reach Viewpoint 2 from the top using this alternate route.
Start by walking through the town and turn right after The Rock restaurant—you’ll recognize it easily by its large wooden ship design. Follow the road past Poo Garden and Valentine Bungalows.
Right after the last Valentine Bungalow, take a left turn at the small shop next to the island’s ice factory. Follow the concrete road past the reservoir. You’ll begin hiking up a few hills for about 20 minutes until you reach a V-junction at the top. There, you’ll see a sign pointing left toward Viewpoint 2.
Take the left turn into the jungle path and continue for another 15–20 minutes. This trail leads you to the back entrance of Viewpoint 2, arriving behind the Viewpoint Café.
This is also the route you’ll take if you’re staying at one of the hotels around Long Beach and hiking in from the area near the main reservoir and the water park by Phi Phi Mountain Beach Resort.

ROUTE #3 (BLUE ROUTE ON THE MAP) — 30 MINUTES
If you’re staying at the far end of Loh Dalum Bay, in hotels and bungalows near The ZEUS Bar, you don’t need to walk back into town to reach the viewpoint.
From resorts like The Cobble Beach, Sea Sky Resort, Kitty Guest house, or Phi Phi Cozy Seafront Resort, simply head to the left side of the bay and walk uphill. Pass Phi Phi Jungle Hill Bungalows and continue hiking to the top. You’ll arrive near Bob’s Bar, right at the entrance of Viewpoint 2.
Tip: Avoid this route on rainy days—it’s not well-maintained and gets muddy and slippery.
ROUTE #4 (RED ROUTE ON THE MAP) — 60 MINUTES
If you’re staying in the northern part of Phi Phi Don, such as Leam Tong Bay, Loh Ba Kao Bay, or Relax Beach, you can hike to Viewpoint 2 through jungle trails.
From Saii hotel and hotels in Leam Tong Bay, follow the marked jungle paths that lead uphill to the viewpoint. Many hotels have signs pointing you in the right direction.
You can also start your hike from Relax Beach or Runtee Bay and connect to the viewpoint trail.
Important: Make sure to plan your hike early enough to return before dark, as jungle trails can become tricky and unlit after sunset.
ENTRY FEE FOR PHI PHI VIEWPOINT
The entry fee to access Viewpoint 1 and 2 is 50 THB per person, which you’ll pay at the small ticket booth located at the first viewpoint.
The fee is well worth it — the area is beautifully maintained by the local landowners. The gardens are clean and colorful, with trimmed grass, tropical flowers, and tidy pathways. You’ll always find the grounds spotless and well cared for.
If you decide to continue the hike to Viewpoint 3, there’s an additional 20 THB fee, which includes a free bottle of water.
Total cost for all three viewpoints: 70 THB.
Absolutely worth it for the experience and the views.

HOW LONG IS THE WALK TO PHI PHI VIEWPOINT?
Reaching Phi Phi Viewpoint 2 takes about 30–40 minutes depending on your pace and route. From the main Tonsai Pier, it’s around a 20-minute walk to Viewpoint 1, followed by another 15–20 minutes up to Viewpoint 2. If you’re up for more, it’s an additional 15 minutes to reach Viewpoint 3.
If you’re only visiting Phi Phi on a day trip, you can still fit in the hike — just make sure you have at least 90 minutes available for the round trip from the port and back.
HOW TO GET TO VIEWPOINT 3?
Once you’ve reached Viewpoint 2, continue through the back gate and turn left. Pass by Phi Phi Bonita Resort, and you’ll start seeing signs for Viewpoint 3 and Pak Nam Bay (Relax Beach).
Follow the small jungle trail — it’s well-marked and easy to follow. After about 15 minutes of hiking, you’ll arrive at Viewpoint 3, where there’s a 20 THB entrance fee (run by different landowners).
There’s a small Viewpoint 3 Restaurant at the top where you can sit, cool down, and enjoy the peaceful views away from the crowds.

IS THERE ANOTHER SECRET VIEWPOINT?
Yes — there’s one more hidden gem known as the Secret Viewpoint or sometimes referred to as Viewpoint 4. It’s a small, rugged opening on top of large boulders, offering a raw and beautiful view directly over Pak Nam Bay.
You can find it by hiking from Viewpoint 2 through the jungle toward Loh Ba Kao Bay. If you manage to spot the faint path through the trees — after all, it is called the secret viewpoint — it will eventually lead you out of the jungle, just above Centara Villas in Loh Ba Kao. It’s not signposted, so a bit of adventure and local guidance helps!
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO SEE KOH PHI PHI VIEWPOINT?
If you want to catch the viewpoint at its most stunning, plan your hike during high tide or rising tide — the ocean below turns a vivid turquoise, and the colors really pop from above. You can check tide charts online or download apps like Tides or Global Tide for updated timings.
The morning is the ideal time to hike — not only is the temperature cooler, but there are fewer people on the path. Around 10 AM tends to offer beautiful light for photos.
Sunset from the viewpoint is also amazing, but it’s the busiest time of day, so expect crowds.
If you’re staying on Koh Phi Phi for more than a couple of days, consider hiking up more than once. The view changes with the light and tides, and it never gets old — I’ve been up there hundreds of times, and it still takes my breath away.
The main viewpoint platform at Viewpoint 2 is surrounded by well-kept tropical gardens, colorful flowers, and big boulders stacked around the edge. It’s the perfect spot to relax, take in the panorama, and snap some unforgettable photos.

SUNSET FROM PHI PHI VIEWPOINT
If you’re planning to hike up to the viewpoint for sunset, be prepared to share the moment with a crowd — this is the busiest time of the day at the viewpoint.
That said, the view is absolutely worth it. As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky lights up in shades of yellow, orange, red, and sometimes even pink and purple. It’s one of the most magical sights on the island.
🌅 Sunset time is usually around 18:30, give or take 15 minutes depending on the season. I recommend starting your climb before 17:40 to find a good spot and give yourself time to snap some incredible photos before the crowds settle in.
SUNRISE FROM PHI PHI VIEWPOINT
Sunrise in Koh Phi Phi is around 6:15 AM, depending on the time of year. You can easily check the exact time online the night before.
If you don’t mind an early wake-up call, sunrise is the quietest time to visit the viewpoint. You might even have the place to yourself — a rare treat on Koh Phi Phi!
Don’t expect dramatic colors like at sunset, since the sun rises behind the viewpoint on the east side of the island. Still, it’s a peaceful and beautiful time to enjoy the view as the island slowly comes to life.
🌞 My favorite time is around 7:30 AM, when the sun is higher in the sky and the colors over the bays are bright and clear.
If you’re looking for a true sunrise over the ocean, head to the east side of Phi Phi Don. One of the best spots is Loh Mood Beach, where you can watch the sun come up directly from the water — a serene and unforgettable experience.

COOL OFF IN A SWIMMING POOL NEAR THE VIEWPOINT
After your hike up to the Phi Phi Viewpoint, why not reward yourself with a refreshing dip in a pool?
🏊♀️ Just 5 minutes behind Viewpoint 2, you’ll find Phi Phi Bonita Resort, where for only 100 THB per person, you can enjoy access to their swimming pool. It’s a great spot to cool down, relax, and grab a drink or some food before heading back down. While the pool doesn’t offer a view, the atmosphere is quiet and chilled — perfect for a post-hike break.
UPDATE: the resort and pool has been closed since 2020

Enter the jungle trail and follow the narrow forest path northwards. After about 30–40 minutes, you’ll reach Loh Ba Kao Bay and the SAII .
📍 Optional Extension:
From Loh Ba Kao, you can continue walking to the very north of the island — Leam Tong Beach, where you’ll find a cluster of peaceful hotels including:

🐒 ARE THERE ANY MONKEYS AT PHI PHI VIEWPOINT?
Yes, you might spot wild monkeys around the Phi Phi Viewpoint area. Since the viewpoint is surrounded by jungle, it’s not uncommon to see monkeys climbing trees or lounging near the path — especially in the early morning or late afternoon.
These monkeys are not aggressive, but they’re curious and can be sneaky when it comes to food.
👉 Tips if you see monkeys:
Do not feed them – feeding wildlife is both dangerous and harmful to their health.
Keep food and drinks hidden – if they spot a snack, they might try to snatch it.
Don’t get too close – they are wild animals, so enjoy watching them from a distance.
🌊 TSUNAMI & THE VIEWPOINT
The Phi Phi Viewpoint is the official tsunami evacuation point on the island. It sits at the highest accessible area on Koh Phi Phi Don, making it a safe refuge in case of a tsunami alert.
During the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004, nearly all of Phi Phi’s infrastructure was destroyed. Since then, the island has rebuilt, and evacuation routes — including to the Viewpoint — have been clearly marked for safety.
You’ll see signs throughout the town indicating the “Tsunami Evacuation Route”, leading up to the Viewpoint trails.
⛑️ Safety tip: If you hear a tsunami warning or siren, follow the signs and head uphill immediately.
